About Me

Hi, I’m Chen Tian. 👋

I am currently an Assistant Professor of Business Information Systems at City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) (香港城市大学(东莞)).

I received my Ph.D. in Information Systems from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. I was immensely fortunate to be advised by Prof. Ramnath Chellappa. My dissertation committee also included Prof. Panagiotis (Panos) Adamopoulos, Prof. Jonathan Gomez from the University of Southern California, and Prof. Jillian Grennan.

I hold a Master’s degree from Zhejiang University (浙江大学) and a Bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University (南京大学).

My research focuses on two streams: the digital infrastructure underpinning AI development, and the application of AI in business and education. (1) In the first stream, I study the economics of data centers. My research examines the evolving geography of data centers, the role of government policies in shaping their deployment, their implications for local energy systems, and how global regulatory environments influence the development of digital infrastructure. (2) In the second stream, I investigate the responsible and ethical use of AI in business and educational settings, including how emerging generative AI technologies reshape organizations and higher education.  My research has been presented at leading information systems conferences, including CIST, WISE, ICIS and PACIS. My work was recognized as an ICIS 2025 Best Paper Award Finalist (国际信息系统年会最佳论文提名).
